Emerging Pandemics

Class #25769 Face-to-Face
Class #31703 Online

The appearance of pathogens in human populations and ultimately their spread over large regions of the globe represents a series of mis-adventures at various stages in emergence that ultimately put large portions of the global population at risk financially and with their health. The various stages of emergence provide myriad opportunities for interventions.  We will review the various drivers of pathogen emergence and spread in the larger human community by reviewing the history of several scenarios as well as situations where potential pandemics failed to ‘take off’. Historical strategies, as well more recent methods of surveillance and control will be examined.
