Arts & Creativity

The Honors Program is dedicated to supporting and strengthening the role of arts and creative activity among members of our community. There are several outlets for creative expression, with varying levels of commitment and expertise needed.

Envision: Honors Creative Competition

Envision is coordinated by the Association of Honors Art and takes place in the late spring semester. Submissions are solicited from among the Honors Program student body. More information is posted in the Honors on Wednesday News in spring.

Honors Curiosity Collective

Intellectual curiosity and community are cornerstones of the Honors experience. Beyond the classroom, there is so much to learn while at the University of Florida, including new hobbies. The Honors Curiosity Collective is a series of workshops, hosted throughout the year for Honors students, by Honors students and faculty, designed to teach and share our hobbies.

Honors students and faculty can apply for the role of Honors Hobbyist.  Hobbyists host gatherings, with Honors support, to introduce the hobby to others. No hobby is too obscure.

Examples of Curiosity Collective workshops hosted include casino games, pinhole cameras, Irish dancing, and crochet. No prior experience is needed to attend these workshops.

Find upcoming Honors Curiosity Collective events in the Honors Event Calendar here.

Honors Student Organizations

Several honors student organizations focus on the creative and performing arts. Any honors student may join or participate!

Association of Honors Art (AHA) meets biweekly to host art-making activities, workshops, and tutorials for all interested honors students.

Honor Chords is the Honors a cappella group that rehearses weekly during the fall and spring semesters and performs regularly throughout the year. No auditions required!

Honors Ensemble allows students to pursue their love of instrumental music in a low-stress, casual, and cooperative environment. No auditions required!

PRISM: UF Honors Magazine showcases life in the Honors Program through their talented staff of writers, photographers, designers, and editors. Staff applications open at the start of each fall and spring semester.

Performing Arts Tickets

Students are encouraged to take advantage of discounted student ticket pricing for University of Florida Performing Arts events. Some Honors UnCommon Arts courses may include tickets to see a relevant event as a group, thanks to a generous Friend of the program and donor. Occasionally the Honors Program Office will sponsor ticket giveaways to popular performances to encourage more students to attend.

UnCommon Arts Courses

Honors UnCommon Arts courses are 1 credit discussion-based courses centered around notable artists, various artistic media, touring performances, and exhibits. Students should look for the IDH 2952 course number in the UF Schedule of Courses or on the Honors Program website to learn more about what is offered each semester.

Past topic examples include:

  • Artists: Jimmy Buffett, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Blues music
  • Artistic Media: Environmental Science in Film, TextStyles, political cartoons
  • Touring Performances: Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, Dear Evan Hansen, Jesus Christ Superstar

UnTangled

UnTangled is a time for fibers artists of all kinds in Honors to meet up and learn together - knitting, crochet, embroidery, cross stitch, etc., although no one would be turned away if they showed up with a sketch pad or other portable project.

Participants should bring a project and have basic skills in their craft of choice, however there is always someone on hand to help learn new techniques if participants are struggling with a project.

During the Fall 2025 semester, UnTangled meets on Fridays from 2:30-4pm in the Honors Village Maker Space in Building 2. No pre-registration needed; just show up!
