Program Requirements

Completion Overview

Honors students must earn a minimum of 8 Academic and 6 Enrichment points, plus meet additional benchmarks to complete the Honors Program. These requirements are distributed among 3 Milestones, due by their respective checkpoint review to progress through the program and earn the Honors Medallion.

Students are encouraged to meet early on with their Honors advisor to develop a plan for aligning the completion requirements with their academic and career goals.

All documentation for points and the Honors Graduation Application must be submitted by the published deadline in the student’s graduating semester. Late / incomplete submissions or applications will not be reviewed or accepted.

Milestone I: First-Year Honors (2025 and later)

Checkpoint Review: End of first spring semester at UF (unless otherwise noted)

  • FHP Entrance Survey: Distributed to incoming students in July, due in August.
  • 2 Honors Courses: Two honors courses, completed with a "B" or higher. Courses will earn a total of 2-4 Academic Points. (Note: URSP Research & Creativity course does not count as an honors course)
  • 3.5 Cumulative UF GPA: Earned by the end of the spring semester
  • Student Conduct and Honor Code Check: Good standing verified by Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution

An appeals process is available for students who do not meet the GPA requirement and / or do not complete their 2 honors courses due to an honors course grade / withdrawal. Students who do not attempt to complete their 2 honors courses will not be eligible to appeal.

Milestone II: Second-Year Honors (2025 and later)

Checkpoint Review: End of the Summer B/C term following the 2nd year at UF

  • 2 Academic Points - any category: This is in addition to the academic points earned as part of Milestone I requirements (via 2 honors courses).
  • 2 Enrichment Points - any category
  • 3.5 UF cumulative GPA

An appeals process is available for students who do not meet Milestone II requirements, but students must have extenuating circumstances, with appropriate documentation, to explain why they were unable to meet these requirements.

Milestone 2.5 Check-in (2025 and later)

Milestone 2.5: Status Check-In

Students will have the opportunity to meet with the Honors Program Completion Coordinator between Milestones II and III to ensure they are on track to complete the UF Honors Program.

Checkpoint Review: Honors Graduation Application Deadline in the Graduating Semester

  • 2-4 remaining Academic Points - any category: Exception, lateral admits must complete 6 remaining Academic Points, but they can use any points earned at UF prior to their Honors admission.
  • 4 remaining Enrichment Points - any category
  • Graduate with Honors in the Major: Meet the criteria to graduate at the "cum laude" level. Honors in the Major criteria is determined and validated by the student's college and can be tracked in the Degree Audit. Alternatively, students may meet this requirement by earning a 3.50 upper-division UF GPA, defined as all courses taken at UF beginning the semester after accumulating 60 credits.
  • Honors Graduation Application: Must be submitted in the Honors Cohort in Canvas by the published deadline in the graduating semester. Honors Completion will not be finalized or the Honors Medallion awarded without receiving this application.

All Academic and Enrichment points and the Honors Graduation Application must be submitted in the Honors Cohort in Canvas by the published deadline, no exceptions.
