About the ERAS Camp
The ERAS Camp is offered to incoming first-year honors students interested in exploring this new era of their life through Taylor Swift lyrics as inspiration. This isn't just a seminar; it is a mastermind exploration of our campus cultural kingdom, moving from the clinical scrutiny of the classroom to the incandescent glow of the Gainesville stage. We will learn from faculty members, use the resources on campus, and venture into the broader city. In this course, you will:
Education
- Learn about Taylor’s marketing and business strategies from a faculty member in the College of Business
- Learn about the Counseling and Wellness Center and about some of the topics that Taylor has spoken/sung about such as anxiety, eating disorders, functioning depression and masking, and substance use as a coping mechanism
Recreation
- Go on an ERAS Gator scavenger hunt to find locations on campus with that incandescent glow that could have inspired Taylor lyrics
- Work out at the RecSports Center in a 30-45 minute workout based on the Eras Tour and/or Taylor’s workout regime for it
Artistry
- Go on an ERAS GNV scavenger hunt to find art around the city that will show students every version of themselves
- Create a final promotional video for UF / Honors Program / the camp itself / something else using the campus and Taylor music and/or lyrics
Storytelling
- Write your own confessional story and musical composition in collaboration with a faculty member from the College of Music
The ERAS Camp is an opportunity to build on a shared language as part of the Swiftie community. You are invited to form relationships as you explore UF and the city of Gainesville. Ready for it?
Important
- Students that sign up for the ERAS Camp will be enrolled in a one-credit Honors Program course as part of the experience. This one-credit class will be completed during the days before Fall classes begin, so there is no need to worry about a conflict with the schedule of another class.
- Please do not register if you have a time conflict. All honors retreats and course-based camps have conflicting schedules with both sorority rush and marching band.
