Dear Prospective Initiate,
In recognition of your high standards of scholarship in your studies at the University of Florida, you are invited to become a member of the International Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. The Society was founded in 1897 to recognize and encourage superior scholarship in all academic disciplines and draws membership from all colleges and departments. The Florida Chapter was founded in 1912 and is one of the largest of almost 300 chapters in the United States.
Membership in the Society is a true honor and one of only a select few honor societies added to your academic transcript. Membership in Phi Kappa Phi has many distinct advantages over some other honor societies, including the highest respect in both the academic community and the job market. Counted among Phi Kappa Phi members are former President Jimmy Carter, Nobel Laureate George Olah, jazz musician Elis Marsalis, author John Grisham, and more than a million other scholars. Additionally, Phi Kappa Phi awards more than $700,000 annually in scholarships and grants, and University of Florida members have achieved great success in winning many of these awards in the recent past. For more information about the national organization, please visit http://www.phikappaphi.org
To accept this invitation, please follow the Application Instructions found on our chapter website and send the completed application, including a check or money order made out to Phi Kappa Phi for $50.00, to 140 Tigert Hall by April 20, 2007. For your initiation fee, you will receive a certificate of membership, a Phi Kappa Phi emblem, national and local dues for one year, and access to other members-only benefits. You may continue as an active member after your first year by paying annual dues to the National office or choose to become inactive, although you remain a member for life. (IF YOU ARE A MEMBER ALREADY, PLEASE DISREGARD. YOU DO NOT NEED TO REAPPLY.)
You are invited to attend an initiation ceremony and reception on Tuesday, April 24 from 5:30-6:30pm in the Keene Faculty Center, 103 Dauer Hall. If you plan to attend the ceremony, please complete the RSVP form on the website and mail it along with your application and fee. We encourage you to invite family members and guests to attend this reception honoring you.
Congratulations on being invited to apply for membership. We look forward to receiving the following in 140 Tigert Hall by April 20:
1. Your completed application for initiation,
2. Your check for $50 made out to Phi Kappa Phi, and
3. The RSVP form if you are planning to attend the ceremony on April 24.
Sincerely,
