The University of Florida is proud to announce a comprehensive and prestigious new scholarship program named after its ninth president, John V. Lombardi. Eight students who exemplify his commitment to excellence, community service, and public responsibility will be selected each year to be John V. Lombardi Scholars. An additional eight scholars will be added each year, so that the program has a total of thirty-two Scholars over a four-year period.
In addition to an educational stipend, Lombardi Scholars will be given the opportunity to pursue research with several of the University's most talented faculty and to pursue their academic interests through study abroad and through internships. Each Lombardi Scholar will be paired with one of UF's most distinguished faculty in their field of study and will also have many opportunities to interact with visiting faculty and speakers. These enrichment programs will commence during the summer before the Lombardi scholars first year in college, with an enrichment program designed specifically for them.
Lombardi scholars will be identified in the following manner: high school principals will nominate seniors seeking admission to UF by March 1, by filling out the nomination form available at http://www.honors.ufl.edu. Nominees for the award must rank at or near the top of their class, demonstrate significant academic achievement through course work, writing and research, service to the community, student and community leadership, and evidence of a strong moral character. Student selections will be based on the nomination materials and application, essay, and interview. Preference will be given to residents of Florida.
