Courses
Our interesting curriculum and renowned faculty are at the heart of the honors experience. Honors courses generally are limited to 25 students or less, which encourages more interaction between students and professors. Honors courses are designed to challenge students intellectually, to broaden their knowledge, and to teach them to think in new ways.
Almost all honors courses satisfy general education requirements, and honors courses are noted as such on students' official transcripts. The completion of four honors courses enables a student to apply for an Associate of Arts certificate with cum laude or magna cum laude recognition, as well as a certificate of completion from the Honors Program.
Each semester first and second year honors students are given early registration for their honors course. At a time and date designated by our office (check your Honors Daily Opportunity List-Serv E-mail), students may register for one honors course on the first day of early registration and a second course on the following day. The early registration date usually comes a week before university-wide registration begins. Typically honors students enroll in at least one honors class during their first four semesters, although they may enroll in honors courses throughout their undergraduate career. To remain in the program they must maintain an overall grade point average of 3.0. Also, please note that although we handle registration for the HHMI Science for Life course, it is not a traditional honors course that counts toward the Certificate of Completion.
You will not be able to register for an honors class during honors early registration if:
- You are past your 3rd semester at UF
- Your GPA is below a 3.0
- You have a HOLD on your record (engineering majors must see their engineering advisors to remove their hold)
- You do not have the prerequisites for the course you are trying to add
- You were already registered by an advisor for a course (such as in Fine Arts)
