UF-UCC Research Experiences for Undergraduate at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana
Pre-departure orientation
Three days before the trip to Ghana, participants will take part in an orientation program at UF. Through lectures and discussions, students will be provided with travel information about Ghana. Some of the topics that would be covered are introduction to the history and culture of Ghana, food and safety issues. There will be an intense course in experimental design during the three-day orientation program.
During the orientation, the group also will explore the background and rationale behind the techniques to be used in each research project. Students will have received, in advance, reading materials on which their project will be based, papers related to the topics that would be covered at the seminars, and copies of written research protocols. Participants will discuss each of the projects the students will be involved in, the types of laboratory and field equipment that will be used, and proper etiquette when working as a member of a research team.
