JMU-UCC REU Program - Summer 2005
Ancillary Activities
When students are in a foreign country for two months, ancillary activities are needed to expand their experience and to balance the tedium of research work during the week. In addition to the research projects, students are expected to participate in activities such as group discussions, research seminars and cultural seminars throughout the week. Field trips take place during the weekend to places such as the Elmina Castle, Cape Coast Castle and the Kakum Forest.
The cultural immersion that students undergo at an international REU site is an invaluable opportunity for their personal development and maturity as scientists. Below are photographs from some of the ancillary activities:
- Elmina Castle
- Bakatue festival
- Cape Coast Castle
- Kakum National Forest
- Sites in Accra
- Bonwire trip
