Students who are not admitted into the Honors Program, or miss the application or confirmation deadline, through the regular admissions process may still apply during their first fall semester of their freshman year by way of lateral admission. A minimum UF GPA of 3.5 during their first semester is required and will be verified prior to acceptance. Lateral admission is the absolute last chance for students to enter the Honors Program; we cannot accept any applications from students who have already moved beyond the first fall semester of their freshman year.
Students who wish to apply for Honors through lateral admissions were required to attend an information session. Registration for info sessions began on Monday, August 24, at 9:00am. Info sessions were advertised broadly, including twice on the Gator Times email that is distributed to all students and through college and departmental academic advisors. More than 500 students registered for these sessions, an increase of 100+ students from the previous year.
We have now completed our information sessions, and students are no longer able to apply for the Honors Program during this cycle.
The lateral admissions process is very competitive and is not guaranteed for any student. For the Fall 2014 admissions cycle, we admitted 38% of our applicants for Spring 2015. Although a 3.5 GPA during the first semester is required, accepted students had an average GPA of 3.85. We do not consider high school activities, test scores, or GPA's as part of lateral admissions.
Please note there is not a lateral admissions process for students in the Innovation Academy or for transfer students.
