Students who are not admitted to the Honors Program (or who do not apply) through regular admission may still apply during their first fall semester of their freshman year by way of lateral admission. A minimum UF GPA of 3.5 during their first semester is required and will be verified prior to acceptance. Lateral admission is the absolute last chance for students to enter the Honors Program; we cannot accept any applications from students who have already moved beyond the first fall semester of their freshman year.
The lateral admissions process is very competitive and is not guaranteed for any student. For the Fall 2012 admissions cycle, we admitted 39% of our applicants. This percentage is typical based on the past several years. Although a 3.5 GPA during the first semester is required, last year's accepted students had an average GPA of 3.91. We do not consider high school activities, test scores, or GPA's as part of lateral admissions.
The lateral admissions cycle for Summer B or Fall 2013 freshman admits is now closed. Potential applicants were required to attend one of the nine information sessions offered during the month of September. Information sessions were posted on this site starting in July and had been advertised in the Preview workbook given to all first-year students, on the Gator Times email sent to all undergraduates, using the #UF17 hashtag on Twitter, in Facebook groups geared towards UF freshmen, and across all-UF academic advising listservs which were then forwarded to their respective students.
Students who did not attend one of these information sessions will not be able to apply for the Honors Program. Students who attended the information sessions will have from October 7 until November 4 at 5:00pm to submit their application online.
Please note there is not a lateral admissions process for students in the Innovation Academy or for transfer students.
