Students who are not admitted to the Honors Program (or who do not apply) through regular admission may still apply during their first fall semester of their freshman year by way of lateral admission. A minimum UF GPA of 3.5 during their first semester is required and will be verified prior to acceptance. Lateral admission is the absolute last chance for students to enter the Honors Program; we cannot accept any applications from students who have already moved beyond the first fall semester of their freshman year.
The lateral admissions process is very competitive and is not guaranteed for any student. For the Fall 2013 admissions cycle, we admitted 52% of our applicants for Spring 2014. Although a 3.5 GPA during the first semester is required, accepted students had an average GPA of 3.87. We do not consider high school activities, test scores, or GPA's as part of lateral admissions.
First-year students admitted to the University of Florida for Summer B or Fall 2014 who are not accepted or do not apply through our regular admissions process will be able to participate in the lateral admissions cycle starting in September 2014, for admission into the program in January 2015.
Please note that students applying through lateral admissions will be *required* to attend an information session in September 2014 in order to gain access to the application. Details about these information sessions will be posted here in August 2014.
Please note there is not a lateral admissions process for students in the Innovation Academy or for transfer students.
