Lateral Admission
Students who are not admitted to the Honors Program (or who do not apply) through regular admission may still apply during their first fall semester of their freshman year by way of lateral admission. A minimum UF GPA of 3.5 during their first semester is required and will be verified prior to acceptance. Lateral admission is the absolute last chance for students to enter the Honors Program; we cannot accept any applications from students who have already moved beyond the first fall semester of their freshman year.
The lateral admissions process is very competitive and is not guaranteed for any student. For the Fall 2012 admissions cycle, we admitted 39% of our applicants. This percentage is typical based on the past several years. Although a 3.5 GPA during the first semester is required, last year's accepted students had an average GPA of 3.91.
Summer B or Fall 2013 UF freshman admits who are interested in applying for lateral admissions will be required to attend an information session in September in order to gain access to the online application. Information session dates will be posted here by mid-August. Students who attend the information sessions will have from October 7 until November 4 at 5:00pm to submit their application online.
Please note there is not a lateral admissions process for students in the Innovation Academy.
