Lateral Admission

Students who are not admitted into the Honors Program, or miss the application or confirmation deadline, through the regular admissions process may still apply during their first fall semester of their freshman year by way of lateral admission. A minimum UF GPA of 3.5 during their first semester is required and will be verified prior to acceptance. Lateral admission is the absolute last chance for students to enter the Honors Program; we cannot accept any applications from students who have already moved beyond the first fall semester of their freshman year.

Students who wish to apply for Honors through lateral admissions are required to attend an information session. Registration for info sessions begins on Monday, August 24, at 9:00am. You must pre-register for a session.

Please note that late arrivals to sessions will not be admitted, and students leaving early will not receive credit for attending. Make sure you can attend the info session before registering - students who do not show up will not be permitted to register for another session, thereby forfeiting their chance to apply for Honors.

Session 1: Wednesday, September 2 from 1:55-2:45pm
Session 2: Friday, September 4 from 10:40-11:30am
Session 3: Tuesday, September 8 from 5:10-6:00pm
Session 4: Thursday, September 10 from 9:35-10:25am
Session 5: Monday, September 14 from 3:00-3:50pm
Session 6: Wednesday, September 16 from 4:05-4:55pm
Session 7: Thursday, September 17 from 10:40-11:30am
Session 8: Monday, September 21 from 11:45am-12:35pm
Session 9: Friday, September 25 from 12:50-1:40pm
Session 10: Wednesday, September 30 from 5:10-6:00pm

The lateral admissions process is very competitive and is not guaranteed for any student. For the Fall 2014 admissions cycle, we admitted 38% of our applicants for Spring 2015. Although a 3.5 GPA during the first semester is required, accepted students had an average GPA of 3.85. We do not consider high school activities, test scores, or GPA's as part of lateral admissions.

Please note there is not a lateral admissions process for students in the Innovation Academy or for transfer students.

If you have any other questions about the lateral admissions process, please e-mail Dr. Melissa Johnson at mjohnson@honors.ufl.edu
