UF Honors Program Banned Books Week Events
The Honors Program is sponsoring a variety of events as
part of the national Banned Books Week celebration of the freedom to read. 2012 marks
the 30th anniversary of BBW which was created in response to the number of
challenges to books in schools, bookstores, and libraries. Events are taking
place nationally from September 30 through October 6.
Since 1982, more than 11,300 books have been
challenged. The most challenged titles of 2011 include The Hunger Games, Brave
New World, Gossip Girl, To Kill a Mockingbird, and My Mom’s Having a Baby! A
Kid’s Month-by-Month Guide to Pregnancy. That’s quite a list! To see the most
